The National Arbor Day Foundation
2007 J. Sterling Morton Award Winner is Sebastian Chuwa
The following announcement is excerpted from the April 17, 2007 National Arbor Day Foundation's letter of award notification:
Sebastian Chuwa has been named recipient of The National Arbor Day Foundation's 2007 J. Sterling Morton Award for his efforts planting trees and environmental education efforts in Africa.
J. Sterling Morton began a movement, Arbor Day, which has spread throughout the world. Morton saw, before almost anyone else, that trees are vitalnecessary not only for our spirits or our comfort, but necessary for our very existence. The J. Sterling Morton Award is the Foundation's highest honor, and is presented each year to a man or woman whose pursuit of the Arbor Day ideal has become synonymous with that of J. Sterling Morton himself.
Arbor Day Farm's Lied Lodge and Conferenece Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska, will be the site of the gala 35th annual National Arbor Day Awards Banquet and Ceremonies. A series of special events is planned for the award winners beginning Friday evening, June 1st, and ending Saturday evening, June 2nd. They will provide wonderful opportunities for the award winners to take part in the Arbor Day traditions of Nebraska City, where Arbor Day was founded 135 years ago by J. Sterling Morton. One highlight of the awards ceremonies will be an audio-visual production featuring the work of each award winner.
ABCP Directors, James Harris and Bette Stockbauer, will attend the ceremonies with Sebastian and will provide photos and report on the events of the awards weekend in this space by mid-June.
